Organic!

I just thought of another entry for my public diary! So, over the last few months I have been trying to live more healthy...you know, watch what I eat, exercise more, etc., etc. I have been minimally successful, but didn't really expect much more. Though I must say, my gym membership is getting much more use than it did all summer, and the cooler mornings have been lending to sunrise jogs. Also, I haven't eaten at McDonald's or Taco Bell in months, even though they're my favorites and my work is sandwiched between the two (unless you count those few bites of hash brown my co-worker shared with me this morning). Yay me!

Anyways, with all the hype about organic food, non-GMO blah blah blah, I decided that it might be worth it to experiment with some new food. During our weekly grocery shopping trip this week, I purchased organic sour cream, milk, cereal, salad dressing, croutons, and cereal bars, just to name a few. Well, our bill at check-out was astronomical! I said to Dylan, "I can't afford to live healthy!" To which he replied, "Yes you can [you just prefer to afford other things instead]." He's so right! I guess I have some personal growth to do before I'll be visiting Whole Foods on a regular basis, but I think I've made a little progress. Any tips for cheap and/or easy healthy living?

Me Time

Basically my whole life is about Me Time, and that's exactly how I like it. My only responsibility outside of work is feeding my dogs and letting them out to pee and poo. Also, my husband is only home part-time (though that's not a preferable lifestyle), lending to much more time for me to do whatever I want. For example, I just got home, received a package containing new shoes at my front door (surprise, surprise) and walked my dogs. Now I sit with my feet up, sip a VitaRain, watch NBC Nightly News, and write this blog while my puppy chews on my hand. Hmmm...what's for dinner? Perhaps a Caesar salad and baked potato...or maybe I'll just heat up a frozen pizza. I think I can squeeze in time later for a TV show or two and a half hour or so on the elliptical. Or maybe I'll put together a few more pieces of my newest puzzle project. This is my life.

I just got around to reading an article that was recently posted on Facebook by a good mom friend of mine and subsequently posted on another good friend mom's blog. This article explained to a thoughtless, childless woman why her mom friends were so busy. I haven't experienced the life of a mom, but I've heard from no less than 7,000 moms that they are very busy, frazzled, and crazy, but also that it's 100% worth it. I believe with the bottom of my heart that moms are the busiest people and have the most important responsibility a person could have. I just wish I could have a dream or some sort of vision where I could feel in my heart the joy of a mom so I knew this would be worth it. Because honestly, I hear about the craziness all the time and it freakin' scares me! I am afraid to ever let go of chillaxin all night long. I don't like being busy, and I would go so far as to say that I don't like working at all, but I hear you really transform when you have kids and you just make things work. I do believe there's hope for me...after all, I was terrified of the responsibility of being a dog-owner, but now I cherish my furry, smelly rats and really go above and beyond for them. I love every minute of it :)

So now that I've mentioned the whole "scared to be a mom" thing twice in a week or so, I must let you know that wanting to want to have kids really does not consume all my thoughts (and no, I am NOT pregnant!). I literally JUST read that article and really had nothing better to write about. In other news, Book Club at Kona Grill on Monday was a success in that we got a table and enjoyed their terrific happy hour. It was less successful, however, when you consider the percentage of the club that actually finished the book (20%). Haha, we had a great time talking about other things though! This month's book is American Wife. Let's hope it's a little more captivating!

I also want to give a shout out to Papa John's...I hung out with the fam at my parents' house last night, and they were running a coupon for a large, three topping pizza for only ten bucks! The Palmers had full and happy bellies by the end of the night. Tomorrow night, all the girls are welcoming in the cooler weather that is promised after the weekend by celebrating Fall at Anne's house while the boys are acting like idiots...I mean having fun...in Prescott. She is cooking a fabulous dinner, and all the girls are bringing a Fall-like drink. Any suggestions on what I should bring? The Fall weather had better pull through for us after this event!

In Other News

In all the excitement spawning from my syncope, I forgot to post the few pictures I had from the weekend. They were all taken from Dylan's phone camera, and are therefore of pretty low quality, but you get the drift. Friday night we met Shawn and Elaine and their neighbor, George, in Fountain Hills for Oktoberfest. It was really cool. We enjoyed one beer each, a strudel, and a brat and sat on the lawn and enjoyed the live music. I'm always a pretty big party pooper on Fridays, so we didn't last all night, but it was definitely worth it. Here's a shot of my handsome husband enjoying a German brew.

We ran a couple errands before meeting our friends last night and ended up having 45 minutes leftover. Wellllllll, we happened to be in the area of Sushi Brokers, so we stopped in for a quick spicy tuna roll and a couple of Kirin Lights before catching up with the gang. I was so happy to be able to satisfy my craving. It had been much too long! Here are just a couple shots at dinner before the show last night. We ordered pitchers of margaritas, and I couldn't finish my meal (possibly because of the prior sushi stop?) so I thought it would be a good idea to take it home for leftovers. Well, after all the excitement of the night, it never made it to the fridge. The car totally stinks.

Well, I got to see my family and my precious nephew today, and my body is recovering quite nicely from yesterday's fall. My rugburn got even nastier looking, but it doesn't worry me. My head is kinda sore, especially the top part of the left side of my jaw and around my ear, but I'm pretty sure nothing's bleeding in there. Tomorrow's Book Club is at Kona Grill. I'm trying not to get too excited because last time we couldn't get a table big enough. We thought it would be cool enough by the end of September to sit outside, and therefore the seating wouldn't be an issue this time. I think 106 is still a pretty uncomfortable temperature, but hopefully we'll figure something out. What's totally disgusting is that the forecasted temperature for the first day of October is over 100 degrees. I just purchased some decorative pumpkins and gourds at Safeway today...maybe that will help bring the Fall weather to us.

An Early Thanksgiving...

The idea for my blog topic this morning came to me rather easily...I actually have a mildly interesting story to share. Before I begin, I'd like to give special thanks to my skull for a tremendous performance carrying out its one and only function last night: protecting my brain. If it weren't for my skull, I might be dead or I at least wouldn't be conscious to tell you of the details of my little adventure.

Our evening began great. The food at Los Dos Molinos was delicious, and we had rather good seats at the Dodge for the Daniel Tosh show. He was really funny, and so were his opening acts. Because the show began so late, I was faced with a significant struggle to stay awake. I allowed myself to drift off for a minute here and there, but I actually didn't miss much! I like how comedy shows don't last very long. It was perfect for my attention span.

Now the action begins. You should be on the edge of your seat at this point. We had begun exiting the building and were near the doors leading out into the main area for the stairs and elevator. I suddenly began to feel very, very ill and told Dylan "I don't feel well. I need to sit down right now." What I should have said is "I'm going to faint. Please catch me," because he thought I just meant I needed to throw up or something. I did make it into a sitting position in a chair in the last row of that section, but then I fainted and fell forward, and the left side of my face and head caught the fall on the big iron bar near the floor that separates the rows.

I came-to like 30 seconds later, and of course the security people were there and had an EMT on the way (actually I don't know what his credentials were, but we'll say EMT for the sake of ease). At least being only semi-conscious saved me from feeling embarrassed. Anyways, they propped me up on the chairs again and took my BP, which read 50/unreadable. The EMT told Dylan to take me to the hospital right away, my organs couldn't possibly be getting any blood or oxygen with this pressure. Even though I was practically a dead person at this point, I was still able to communicate to please lay me on the ground and prop up my feet. Magically, I felt better about a minute later. But that's when I felt the burning on my shoulder and saw a pretty awesome rugburn. My head began hurting just a little, too, but overall I was fine. By the time we got downstairs and outside the Dodge (Dylan pushing me in a wheelchair and EMT boy by our side), Chuck had just gotten the car out of the garage. My syncopal episode didn't even hold us up! EMT boy took my pressure one more time and it was 110/something. I was alive again!

I learn something new every time I faint. The lesson this time was to say "I'm fainting," so someone will help me get on the floor. Last time I fainted, I was doing rounds in a hospital as a student, and I specifically remember telling my preceptor, "I don't feel well," and he caught me before I hit the ground. I guess that was just lucky. Another important lesson I've learned in past episodes is that riding in an ambulance is a very expensive mode of transportation. Before my brain was even fully functioning last night, I demanded that nobody call an ambulance. I also learned that a trip to the ER where they run all kinds of tests on your heart and central nervous system is very expensive as well, so I try to refuse hospital treatment at all costs. As a student, they forced me to go to the ER, even though I had been there once before for the same thing and knew nothing was wrong. Both ER visits were when I was still a student, so unfortunately for my parents, they covered the bills. Thanks mom and dad!

Well, my other half should be rising here any minute. Thank goodness for the blog so that I have something to do when I am completely incapable of sleeping in and everyone else is still in bed. The moral of the story this morning is: sometimes I just faint, but don't get worried if I ever do it in front of you. I don't know really what causes it...last night was a mixture of being tired, and my hands and feet were also tremendously swollen (I could barely squeeze my feet back into my shoes that I had kicked off during the show). It must have been from walking around in the heat before the show. I think it threw my circulation all out of whack. Whatever, I fainted, I'm fine, and it's over!

My New Career

I think I could make a career out of being a lazy person. Being lazy is truly my favorite thing to do. And today I have really indulged. Since we just now got the new DVR up and running, it didn't record any of the shows from premiere week. This means that I have to get all caught up on Saturday because the big TV is for football viewing only on Sunday. So, today I've watched Parenthood, Better With You, One Tree Hill, and Life Unexpected. Would you like to see what me being lazy looks like? Okay, here you go.

I've even managed to maintain this position, except that I now have a computer on my lap instead of two small dogs with crazy eyes. Not to worry, I did fit in a work-out and a shower already, so I'm not a total waste of oxygen.

Anyways, we've got a full night ahead of us. What started out as Dylan buying his good pal Chris Meabon a ticket to Tosh Tour 2010 for his birthday ended up with Eric&Anne, Chuck&Erin, Kate&Chris, and Dylan&Me all getting tickets together for the show. We are going to Los Dos Molinos beforehand, too, which is almost as exciting to me as seeing the comedian. Funny enough, in the last day I've discovered that Jessica (tiny girl, water balloon boobs) and Kevin are also going, and so are Amy and Alex. I believe they all have tickets to the 7:00 show. We, however, are going to the 10:30 performance, which as you all know presents a real challenge to me. Luckily I have not exerted too much energy today, and I even snuck in a quick cat nap. We'll see how this goes...

Not too much on the plate for tomorrow, which I love. I do need to get a few more pages of the book club book, The One, under my belt. I've only read a third of it and book club is on Monday. Yikes! It hasn't been my favorite book, and everyone else is having a difficult time finishing it, too. Also, my parents are back stateside after a couple weeks in Africa, so I may pay the Palmers a little visit tomorrow. Come to think of it, I'm the only Palmer I've seen in quite some time. I haven't even seen the guys across the street in at least a week. I'm looking forward to some family time and one more day with Dylan before it's back to work (insert barf). What about you? Maybe you should start a blog and tell me about your weekend plans!

Newsworthy...

Dylan and I just finished up a great dinner with Steph and Casey at the new Sandbar. We had a blast...it had been much too long! Earlier in the day, I had taken my car into the Volvo place on I-17 and Bell (from work in South Scottsdale) and then headed to Desert Ridge and then back to the house. So, because I spent a significant part of my day behind the wheel, I had plenty of time to think. My thoughts began with an article I read on AZCentral.com last night. A man broke into a house off of Dynamite, and when the police responded to the house alarm, they found the burglar in the desert. Apparently he had become overcome with heat or had fallen ill for some other reason. That mildly unusual story then lead my thoughts down the path of reminiscing about last year's news stories, and you really wouldn't believe the number of newsworthy events that have happened in our little corner of the world!

Out in the boonies, we are bordered on one side by a bunch of old people (Rio Verde) and the other side by the homes that make our zip code the second-most expensive one in the area for real estate (Troon North). You wouldn't think much would happen around here, but you're wrong! The first newsworthy event I can remember since we moved here was the bicyclist that got hit by a car and died on Dynamite. Very sad, I know. But you still see TONS of bikers, so nobody's been discouraged by this unfortunate event. Then, there was the burglar stealing copper wire in Troon that was pulled over and arrested on Dynamite closer to our house. Then, there was a fire at a multi-million dollar house in the area (closer to Troon, of course). Insurance fraud, anybody? A couple of months ago, there was also a small brush fire off Alma School and Dynamite that was put out before it got very big. Oh, and I almost forgot about the dead body discovered in the wash in that same area. And lastly, the aforementioned burglar who fell ill in the desert.

When you consider we moved from a condo complex where an old lady was murdered in her home just a few buildings over, and then there was the small incident involving my car and a crazy guy with a gun (and by small I mean LARGE), I think we're doing a little bit better. Since moving, none of our property has fallen victim to random gunfire on a Saturday afternoon, and we've managed to stay safe and sound way out here. I think we'll stay here a while.

In other news, I almost peed my pants laughing at Nora's blog. Whitney was a guest writer tonight, and she described the adventures of last weekend. She even remembered my story from the shower where I told everyone that I use MAXI PADS in the dog diapers, and I said MAXI PADS a little louder than what some would consider to be a comfortable volume. She capitalized MAXI PADS every time, too, which was the funniest part! I've always had a problem thinking before I speak, but that's just who I am...

Date Night!

Today my Aunt Ange took the dogs while I was at work. They have so much energy to burn, so it's nice when they can go to her house and run around a yard and play with her doggies. I love not having to rush home after work to let them out to pee and to repair things they've chewed or broken. After work, Aunt Ange and I went on a date to Maggiano's for dinner and discovered they had quite an excellent happy hour, though we didn't take advantage of it tonight. We went whole hog and had a full dinner. Some friends at work always talk about this amazing deal where you order a pasta entree and then they make you a second pasta entree of your choice to take home for free. It's awesome! So not only do I have my leftover ravioli in the fridge for lunch tomorrow but also a full plate of gnocchi for a meal this weekend! Last time I brought home leftover Italian food from Macaroni Grill, my husband got home from his trip and it magically disappeared. He tried to blame it on the contractor that was at our house, but I don't think I believe him. I am considering buying a lock for one of the fridge drawers for my leftovers...and you people who know how possessive I am with my leftovers know that I am not kidding. Consider this a warning, Dylan.

Tomorrow night is Date Night, Round 2. This time it's of the male/female variety. Dylan and I are meeting my old friend, Steph, and her husband, Kasey, for dinner somewhere in Desert Ridge. She is pregnant with a little boy. You'd think that with all these babies and pregnant people all over the place I'd catch the baby fever. Well not even close. I think my family hopes that Dylan will knock me up on accident since I am still so resistant to the idea. I know that babies are the best thing in the entire universe and everything, but all I can think about is three things: 1) stinky diapers, 2) lack of sleep, and 3) lack of time to do whatever I want. I think reason #2 is the main limiting factor. I'm already so tired by nature, and there's no way my body will be able to play the "up all night" game. I figure my ovaries have at least 7 more years before they shrivel up, so I have time to grow into the notion of becoming a mom. It'll happen some day...if I don't wait too long, I guess!

Lady?

As I was telling Dylan about Jess's shower on Saturday, I mentioned that I heard the expression "lady" or "ladies" used several times. Exampes: "Ladies, can I get you anything else to drink?," or "Ladies, thank you so much!," or even, "Hi, ladies, how are you?" I told him that I feel like "lady" is not a very fitting term for me. Not that I'm not ladylike, but I feel like "hey you," or "girl," or just my name (whatever it is that you call me...Lindsey, Lu, LP, Palm, Linds- any of those work) are just more comfortable for me. Then I went to blog about the shower and the world "LADY" from my blog description was in my face.
Basically, I call myself a lady any time someone reads my blog. How did that happen? Guess it's time to grow up and become a lady.

What a Flake!

Today I realized that I might be one of those people who you can't always take what they say at face value, especially when it comes to taking up new interests or activities. First, I already fessed up that the museum tour had never begun (though I still want to check out a few valley museums), then I realized I had talked all big a few weeks ago about volunteering at the animal shelter, and I never did that either! I really intended to, but you know how it is. You get all wrapped up in yourself, and it never happens. And lastly, I said we were going to buy mountain bikes at Costco yesterday, but...you guessed it...we didn't. We went out to eat instead, because of course Dylan thought we would save money if we just took a little more time and found a screamin' deal on Craigslist. And of course, he's right. We've already seen a few leads. I really hope this idea comes to fruition. I also still really have my heart set on taking that class in the spring semester at SCC, and I hope for my own sake I don't flake out on that, too. So, I have made a new resolution to follow through on all my big ideas once they are made public, or else refrain from publicly announcing all my big ideas because I'm like a kid...everything seems great at first so you get all excited and tell the whole world. But then you realize you only have limited resources (time, money, etc.) and can't make everything happen. Such is life!

In Celebration of Jess!

I think I speak for everyone when I say I had a great time at Jessica's shower and bachelorette party yesterday! The shower was beautiful, and the taco bar was delicious. Jess kept up a good pace at opening presents, and we didn't have to play any ridiculous games. A perfect shower, in my opinion. Great job, Alison and Meredith!

At night, we headed to The W in "our sexiest golf attire." Jess got some fun lingerie, and then it was off to RnR for dinner. I'd like to go there again some time. My salad was great, and everybody else had nice things to say about their food, too. After that, the limo picked us up to start our bar golf game, which began at Flicka's. Kris and I paired up for the game, and by the end of the night we were the self-proclaimed winners. And our prize was so awesome...we get to attend the wedding next month! Jess, Al, Kourt, Kris, and I ended the night with a slice from Joe's Pizza. It really hit the spot. Then, I kindly woke Dylan from his slumber at 1am, and he drove 25 minutes to pick me up so that I wouldn't be in any sort of unsafe and unlawful situation behind the wheel. I think he officially earns the award Best Husband Ever.

Kris in the back of the van, with no backseats!

The three of us.

Limo style.

Thanks for the drink!

Cartwheel in a bar!

I think I pulled something.

My favorite thing about this picture is the expression on Kris's face.

We are all very excited for Jess and Nick's nuptials next month! For being such great friends, it doesn't seem as though Kris, Jess, Steph and I get together enough to party and have fun like we did in college. We got a hotel room for the night, so everyone will be able to cut loose. And like I told Jess, hers is the perfect wedding to close out our big year of weddings. She also told me she will be singing an A capella version of Happy Birthday during the reception. Can't wait, Jess!

The Way Things Are

Yesterday I glanced at our kitchen counter from a distance and just started laughing at what a terrible mess it was and always is. The camera happened to be sitting amongst the mess, and I felt compelled to document the moment. At that point, I remembered Dylan telling me for the last two days that I should pick up the eight (yes, eight) pairs of shoes lying next to my bed. Once I put them away, I noticed what a disaster my closet was and took a shot of that, too. And lastly, for good measure, I included a picture of the office, where a pair of shoes on a desk is a totally normal thing around here. The moral of the story is, if you've ever been to our house, we've probably picked up a bit and possibly even wiped down the counters and/or vacuumed. But that is so atypical for the Millers. No, we don't have crazy children leaving their toys and sippy cups all over the place, and no, we don't have crazy, busy, overwhelming lives leaving no time to clean. It's just how we live, and that's how we're comfortable. So next time you're about to go crazy because your house is a mess and you have no time to clean, just pull up these pictures and know that somebody else's house is in worse shape.

Coaxing Fall

I just read about how Elaine is getting into the Fall mood by cooking roasts and sauces, etc. It's her favorite time of year, and it's the same for me. Maybe because our birthdays are in November and October? That, and also because I honestly CANNOT stand the heat anymore, and the cooler weather that comes with Fall is such a relief.

With that being said, we are more than half way through September, and the high today is 108. That makes me want to scream, cry, and throw things. I have put in such a good effort to tempt Fall to descend upon the Valley, and it just won't budge. September is so frustrating! I even purchased two pumpkin decorations from Hobby Lobby and four hand soaps from Bath & Body Works that smell like caramel apple and pumpkin spice. Oh, and a ceramic pumpkin candle, too. I should have known better. September does this to me every single year. Oh well, it will just be that much more exciting when the temperature actually becomes comfortable. And living way the heck out where we do, the temperature is usually 5 to 10 degrees cooler than in the city, so at least I have been able to go on morning runs...if I can make it outside before 7:30 or so.

Allright, time to shower for the shower. Haha. We are celebrating Jess today! First a shower and then dinner and a round of bar golf tonight for a bachelorette party. I am so happy for my friend Jess! These wedding festivities are such a fun time in a young girl's life. Dylan is off to the lake where he won't have to worry about me floating off with a life jacket wrapped around my middle and a blended pina colada in hand. We'll rendezvous at home around midday and then go our separate ways again. We've decided to make Sunday a split Lu and Dylan day, so we're going to Costco to buy mountain bikes in between football games. Remember that museum thing from last week? It never happened. But we'll put in our best effort to actually use our mountain bikes since we'll have real money invested in this activity.

Big Haircut Day

While I was at work today, Dylan took our rat dogs in to be shaved. Wow, what a difference it makes. They really do come home looking like rats, but I think it is so hilarious. The groomer at the vet's office was even nice enough to bedazzle Ramona with a hot pink bow and collar cover, and even Joe got a little gentleman's collar cover.

Here's the pretty, pretty princess, Ramona.

Ra Dog Action Dog

The Tiny, Little Gentleman. He's always on the move, making it difficult to get a good shot.

And in even more exciting news, Dylan had a contractor at the house today putting together an estimate for a snake-proof, coyote-proof, owl-proof dog run, so the dogs won't have to pee in diapers while I'm at work anymore. Seriously, they wear diapers.

Well, it is 8pm on a Friday and here I sit alone in the house. After a late night last night and a particularly brutal day on the job, I am pretty much beat. I almost wish they didn't give us open bar at our "work meeting" last night. Actually, I take that back. Who in their right mind ever doesn't want an open bar? I really did have a great time drawing inappropriate pictures on the paper tablecloth in crayon just like a 14-year-old, as I'm sure my co-workers did, too. But, I am so exhausted.

I met the ol' crew at Brio after work today (after making some quick purchases at H&M of course, since I was already in the area).  Upon learning that Brio's Happy Hour drink specials were non-existent, we quickly headed to Primebar, where the drink and appetizer specials were much more appealing. They had great $3 beers on draft and $5 glasses of wine. I think they even had a special for top shelf liquor. They also had a long list of delicious $5 appetizers. The only downfall was that the very loud music made it difficult to converse, and it was pretty warm inside. It's definitely a happy hour worth checking out...it passes the Lu Test for sure. I bailed early, in typical Lu fashion, to greet my newly shaven dogs and take some time for myself at home, since I haven't spent much time here since Tuesday. Dylan is still at happy hour making up for what I lack in sociability. I really owe him one! Another busy (and really hot) weekend lies ahead.

In closing, here is a picture depicting my favorite thing to do: sit on the patio with my favorite person and eat and drink. I think I will block some time for that on Sunday.

Going the Distance

It was a much better movie than I thought it would be! The beginning was a lot funnier than the end, but all in all, I found it very enjoyable. I am adding this to my "List of Movies I Thought I Would Enjoy but Didn't Realize Would Actually be Really Good." Others on this list (as previously mentioned) are The Switch and The Proposal. I saw the movie this afternoon with my friend, Jessica. Remember the tiny girl with huge water balloon boobs in the White Trash Party pictures? That's her. I also had a whirlwind shopping trip with Kris and Kendall before hitting the theaters, and we were extremely productive and now are very ready for this weekend...Jess's Shower, Lingerie Shower, and Bachelorette Party! Other Jess...not water balloon boob Jess.

So, my very long day ended up being a pretty good day. My husband is home now, and he got to be here a few hours by himself to enjoy his new video game without me nagging about the noise. Work was fine, and the whole killing time thing ended up being okay. The meeting at Macaroni Grill was okay, too. Free food and wine is always okay with me. Now it is extremely late for me, so I will sign off now before I go off on another tangent!

Today was a pretty good one...

...for a few reasons. First, it's my one late day of the week, so I was able to enjoy a leisurely jog in the morning before beginning my day. Second, I had a fun surprise delivered to me at work. Dylan sent these baby roses to me for no reason. Isn't he awesome? How is it that I ended up with the coolest guy who ever lived? I guess it was just good luck.

And lastly, this day was great because I got to eat pizza for both lunch AND dinner. Oh, and speaking of work lunches, they got us Five Guys burgers last week, and I still think that In 'n Out is better, just for the record. Which reminds me that tomorrow is Thursday, one of the days where we don't get lunch delivered to us on a silver platter. Guess I'll throw together a PB&J tonight before hitting the sack.

To top off the day, I got to hang out with my two favorite people under the age of two: Jaylen and Hudson! I also got to see Aunts Angie and Fran, Sumer, Kristin, Max, and Jojo, but you know how it is when you get together with people and their babies- the babies are always the most exciting part.

Tomorrow night is our work meeting at Macaroni Grill...a bittersweet time for me. I love free Italian food, but I am wondering what surprises they are going to throw at us. I've heard mention of a late shift (2-10pm) that they'll be starting, which sounds awful but will actually be cool. If I work late on Mondays, then I can go away for the weekend and come home Monday instead of Sunday. Also, since we close at six, I wouldn't have to take incoming calls for half of my shift, which is awesome. I seriously dislike dealing with people (and I only say that because I don't like using the word "hate"), so no phones means no people! This probably has you asking, "If you don't like people, then why did you choose a career in pharmacy?" The answer is "I don't know." Anyways, they'd better have something good to say because I have to kill four hours of my day waiting around for the meeting, and killing time is my least favorite activity. I think I've mentioned that before. I have some shopping to do, then I'm going to try to catch a movie at the mall. We'll see how this goes. Situations like this are the only time my huge commute bothers me.

Switching topics, did anybody see the premiere of Parenthood last night? I am going to turn it on and wind down so I can make it an early night. I figure I will leave the house at 6am for work, then kill time, go to the meeting, and get home by around 9:30 or so, making for a very long day for this exceptional homebody. I am looking forward to Dylan coming home tomorrow, and then it's almost the weekend!

Sundays Gone...

I hear the sounds of football and Dylan shouting again. (I also hear the nail clipper...I better not find toenail remnants in the couch cushions). Has it already been seven months since the Super Bowl? Wow, that means the ditch that whatever utility company dug to bury whoever's whatever line has been in front of my house for as many months. Except now they've added yellow caution tape and flashing orange barricades. Wow, I didn't realize how ridiculously long this ghastly sight has been around. Time to write some angry emails...

Anyways, back to football. The Sunday Ticket subscription has been renewed for the season, which means we will have numerous and varied male visitors at the house on Sundays to accompany my husband on the couch. (The previous statement could be interpreted in an interesting way, but don't think like that. You know what I mean.) The difference between this year and last, however, is my major attitude adjustment. I've realized that all I need is a Sunday Plan so I don't feel as though my house has been hijacked once a week. For example, laundry and ironing are good activities for a Sunday. Furthermore, I have converted the dining room to Lu's Hangout, and I already have my second puzzle started. Also, those CE credits I intended to work on a few weeks ago? Never happened. I'll add that to my Sunday Plan. Lastly, remember how we were going to buy a new DVR for me for the bedroom? Mission accomplished. And some premieres begin this week...just in time.

And I still have Saturday, which we at the Miller house call Lu Day, meaning I choose all the day's activities and meals. This began because poor little me had to grind all week at work while Dylan had much more freedom to do as he chose all week. So, Saturday was my time to get whatever I wanted. Now we both work, but Saturday is still Lu Day. Works for me!

Not Your Average Neighborhood Heroes

As I sit here waiting for my toenail polish to dry so that I can put on my jeans and go (yes, I am typing this in my underwear), I just thought I'd share with you the adventures of our morning. I started it off by perusing the Scottsdale Community College course catalog online while in bed, waiting for Dylan to look alive. I am shopping for a class to take either at night or online during the spring semester because my brain is so bored. I mean, TV and reading can only do so much for me...I need some sort of classroom type structure and the tuition is a total bargain. Maybe I'll discover a hidden talent or find a new calling in life. But probably not. Either way, I'll be doing something to occupy the time while my husband is away that is much more beneficial to my well-being and my wallet than shopping and watching TV.

When the dogs and husband came-to, we joined Max, Kristin, Hudson, Diego, and Lexi on a walk because it is so nice out! I am so happy that it is the time of year again where we can reinstate Saturday morning walks. As we approached our respective houses at the end of our walk, a neighbor on his horse asked if we had seen his dog. Oh no! I can't imagine how terrible it would be to lose your pup. So, Dylan and I got in our Rhino and Max got it in his and we searched the desert for "Lou." We even brought hot dogs as bait. We looked everywhere for him and told everyone we saw to look for him, too. Toward the end of our journey, a guy in a pick-up drove by and said he saw Lou chillin' in the road a few blocks away, so we headed in his direction. We shouted his name and went everywhere looking for him. It was hard to give up, but finally we did. We never found Lou...but hopefully somebody else did. So, actually we're not heroes at all, but it caught your attention, right?

I think it's safe to put on my jeans now. We are going to head out on our shopping adventure and possibly hit up the Heard Museum North on our way back. Dylan and I are going to do a Phoenix Area Museum Tour hosted by ourselves this Fall. Other museums on the agenda include the Science Museum, SMoCA, Phoenix Art Museum, Arizona Historical Society, and the Cave Creek Museum. When the Millers come for Thanksgiving, we are also going to the Music Instrument Museum. I think I am setting my aspirations a little high with this museum tour, but its fun to pretend we might actually do this.

Make You a Blog, And Do it NOW!

On my drive home from my last day of the "longest short week ever," I discussed with my pal Kristen how much we both love reading each others' and other peoples' blogs. Well, after greeting my husband and furry friends, I got on the ol' laptop to discover that Nora posted not one, not two, but THREE new posts since the last time I checked. Also, Kristin posted new pictures of Hudson, and Kristen had some shots of Kendall touring Seattle. What a fulfilling afternoon! The Mich Ultra in my belly may have contributed to the fulfillment I am feeling.

Well, the Palmers are off to Africa. Max, Hudson, and I sent them off after dinner at Jalapeno Inferno on Wednesday night. Man, that place is good. They are featuring a green chile menu right now while the chiles are in season, and I brought my leftovers to work the next day just to make everyone else jealous. Dylan got home today and brought a McFlurry to DBD for me on his way home from the airport (another incident of me making my coworkers jealous with food). That, coupled with the new blog posts, a well-stocked fridge after Dylan's stop at Bev Mo, and a new DVR via a Craigslist transaction in Mesa, has made for one happy LP. And the best thing of all? No plans this weekend! Our biggest adventure is heading to the PV Mall area to get a new watch for Dylan and maybe some Halloween and Christmas decorations at Hobby Lobby. With the weather being so nice, we might also venture out on the Rhino or at least take the pups on a long walk. Tonight, it's just Dylan, me, the patio, and all the treats in our fridge!

We're Home for the Remainder of the Year!

Hello, and welcome to your short work week. There's nothing better to soften the blow of coming home from a great trip than the view of another weekend on the horizon. There's also nothing worse than an insanely busy and stressful work day to come back to since Monday was a holiday. But I guess you can't have it all right?

Our New England trip was very wonderful. Sarah's wedding was amazing, I had a blast with my high school friends, and the weather was perfect. We got some much-needed relief from this awful, never-ending heat. Dylan and I even got some quality time together on our last day and night there. And now, we just have one last wedding (of six) for 2010, and it's even in town...if you can count the distance from Rio Verde to Wild Horse Pass as "in town." This has been an exciting year seeing so many friends find wedded bliss and traveling to so many great places, but I am not at all upset that so far the 2011 Wedding Calendar has exactly ZERO bookings. It's exhausting, you know!

Well, here is a quick overview of our trip, as well as some pictures. If you have all the time in the world, you can view my facebook album HERE with a more comprehensive overview of the trip. Well, Dylan, Ashley, and I took off very early on Friday and made it to Manchester mid-day, and then we drove to our hotel in White River Jct. where we met up with Tariq. The four of us went to Hanover to have dinner at one of the college pizza joints, and then went to a party for the people in town for the wedding. On Saturday, Ashley had to head into town to get started on the bride and wedding party's hair, and Tariq, Dylan, and I drove around. We saw a lot of the gorgeous Vermont countryside, drove through the Dartmouth campus, and made a quick stop at the Norwich Farmer's Market. Then, we went back and got ready for the wedding and boarded the school bus wedding shuttle to the church. The wedding was beautiful, and the reception at Aaron's house was amazing. They have their own pond, and their property backs up to gorgeous green hills. It might be an understatement to say that all four of us were "over-served," but holy cow we had a blast! The next day, Dylan and I went to Portsmouth and Ashley and Tariq headed out of town. We toured the Strawberry Banke Museum, walked around town, drove up the coast, and then headed over the bridge to Kittery, ME for some great clams and lobsters. Monday morning, D and I headed back to Manchester, where we walked around town to kill time for an hour or so before heading to the airport. Everything went smoothly with our travels, and our doggies were happy to see us when we got home. The weather was perfect the entire time, too. All in all, I'd say it was a ten out of ten!

Ash and I got in good with the guy above, Jabbar. We are writing a romantic comedy, and he is a producer in Hollywood, so he's going to bring it to the silver screen. This is my ticket out of the mundane, working person's life. Everyone needs a pipe dream.

And something else I got out of this trip? A new hairdresser, which I so desperately needed! Ashley is in school at ASU learning to be a geography teacher, but she still does kitchen cuts, and she is accepting new clients.

So now that we're in the midst of September, you can expect me to be very cranky. By this point in the summer, I am so very tired of the heat, and teasers exist all of over the place claiming that fall is here. But, we do have some fun to look forward to in the coming weeks, so I'll try not to let the weather get to me too bad.

Hump Day Update

I was delighted to sign onto my dashboard and see that Nora, Kristin, and Elaine had all put up recent posts. I love reading blogs...it's better than celebrity gossip. Will more people please write blogs? Please?

Well, where did I leave off? We shared our favorite thing ever, Sushi Brokers' happy hour, with Ted and Brian on Sunday before they took off, which is always a great way to start the week! Dylan picked up some OT out of Los Angeles since he had to take his friends to the airport at an incredibly early hour anyways on Monday, and on Tuesday he headed out again to Dallas to make a fun Guadalajara turn and came back home. It's been nice to have him home at nights this week. Especially last night, when I came home to my alarm going off. I wouldn't have slept if he wasn't here!

Yesterday I saw "Eat, Pray, Love" with my mom and Kristin. Don't see it. It's SO boring. I also thought the book was boring, so I don't really know what I expected. I still haven't seen the Beezus and Ramona movie. I know I'm not seven-years-old anymore, but I was OBSESSED with those books as an elementary school kid, and I would love to re-visit that time in my life for a couple of hours. I'm pretty sure nobody will volunteer to see it with me, so I guess I'll have to wait for it to come out on DVD. Another source of entertainment these past couple weeks has been the show, "The Middle." I watched the entire season via the Internet and really loved it! I have added it to my premiere schedule. Premieres are only a couple weeks away, and the search is still on for a new DVR. Hopefully one turns up on Craigslist soon!

Well, today I saw the mobile dog groomer again. It was pulled over on the side of the 101. Hopefully it wasn't having some sort of mechanical failure with dogs inside on this hot day. Actually, this morning was so nice and cool that I took off on a run before work. It felt so good. I've been on a two week hiatus from running due to a nasty bout of tendinitis in my left foot and leg. I guess when you take up running again without providing your lazy body with any notice it makes for an angry tendon. Okay, time to get ready for this weekend's festivities. Sarah T. is getting hitched. Here's to two four-day work weeks in a row!
